Avaliação das condições de temperatura e escarificação para a superação de diásporos de teca (Tectona grandis Linn. F.) provenientes do Estado de Rondônia. Infoteca-e
ROCHA, R. B.; VIEIRA, A. H.; SPINELLI, V. M.; VIEIRA JÚNIOR, J. R..

Comparative evaluation of conventional RT-PCR and real-time RT-PCR (RRT-PCR) for detection of avian metapneumovirus subtype A Ciência Rural
Ferreira,Helena Lage; Spilki,Fernando Rosado; Santos,Márcia Mercês Aparecida Bianchi dos; Almeida,Renata Servan de; Arns,Clarice Weis.
Avian metapneumovirus (AMPV) belongs to Metapneumovirus genus of Paramyxoviridae family. Virus isolation, serology, and detection of genomic RNA are used as diagnostic methods for AMPV. The aim of the present study was to compare the detection of six subgroup A AMPV isolates (AMPV/A) viral RNA by using different conventional and real time RT-PCR methods. Two new RT-PCR tests and two real time RT-PCR tests, both detecting fusion (F) gene and nucleocapsid (N) gene were compared with an established test for the attachment (G) gene. All the RT-PCR tested assays were able to detect the AMPV/A. The lower detection limits were observed using the N-, F- based RRT-PCR and F-based conventional RT-PCR (10(0.3) to 10¹ TCID50 mL-1). The present study suggests that the...

Is It Time for a World Currency? AgEcon
Shams, Rasul.
There have been several proposals to reduce the observed volatility of flexible exchange rates. The paper reviews two recent opposite views on the appropriateness of a common world currency for this purpose. Referring to an adequately formulated theory of world money, it is shown that there is presently no alternative to a flexible exchange rate system. This system might, under specific conditions, gradually evolve into a world monetary system with a global currency. Developing some structural principles of the world economy the paper also explains some hitherto unexplained features in the development of international monetary relations. Es existieren viele Vorschläge zur Reduktion der hohen Volatilität flexibler Wechselkurse. Im Papier werden zwei neuere,...

Structural Breaks and Financial Volatility: Lessons from BRIC Countries AgEcon
Morales, Lucia; Gassie, Esmeralda.
Despite the fact that there is a substantial literature on the analysis of volatility spillovers between stock returns and domestic exchange rates, surprisingly, little empirical research has examined volatility spillovers between oil prices and emerging economies, where a clear gap of research have been found regarding to the BRIC financial markets and the effects of the 2007-2009 World economy crisis. This lack of research might appear as surprising given that energy markets are of particular interest as they are considered a fundamental reference for economic recovery and growth. Therefore, this work aims to address this gap on the literature by looking at the BRIC financial markets and their co-movements with regard to some energy markets (oil, natural...

Why Do Countries Form Regions? The Political Economy of Regional Integration AgEcon
Shams, Rasul.
To understand the reasons for the formation of regional economic groupings two basic concepts are introduced: association and dissociation. Moreover, the importance of interest groups and strategic groups is discussed, and security and bargaining power as basic political motivations are evaluated. The paper also analyses some political economy arguments regarding the determinants of the size of economic groupings and the dynamics of their development through different stages. Finally it considers regional groupings as strategical coalitions with a deep impact on the future of the world economy. Um die Ursachen für die Entstehung regionaler ökonomischer Gruppierungen zu verstehen werden zwei grundlegende Konzepte eingeführt: Absonderung und bedingte...
